Wrap it up (in a box)

Supplies: scissors (with adult supervision), transparent tape, a pencil and
a ruler if needed for straight edges.

  1. Find a good, sturdy box to fit your present and remove any unwanted tags or stickers from your gift.

  2. Take one sheet of tissue paper, pleat the center of the tissue lengthwise to be flush on the bottom of the box at the north and south sides. Leave extra tissue on the east and west sides of the box to fold over the top of your gift. Place your gift in the tissue-lined box. (For fragile gifts, place extra tissue around the gift to prevent movement). Fold the west side of the tissue over the top of the gift. Fold the east side of the tissue over the west side. Stickers may be used to secure the tissue seam and make a sassy finishing touch.

  3. Tape the gift receipt underneath the lid of the box so the recipient easily finds it.

  4. Place the lid on top of the box and tape the sides of the lid for additional security if needed.

  5. Place the box top down in the center of the paper. Cut the paper large enough to wrap around the box so it overlaps about a half-inch in the bottom center. Use a ruler or yardstick to help you make straight cuts. (Be sure to allow enough paper on the north and south ends so when you fold the sides down, the end of the box is covered). Fold the east and west sides of the paper around the box and tape the paper together in the center bottom of the box. (If your paper cut is not straight, fold the paper under to make a straight seam. Always crease your folds).

  6. To cover the ends of the box, fold the sides of the paper in on both the east and west sides. Fold the bottom flap of the paper down. Fold the top flap of the paper up to meet the bottom lap. Secure the flaps together with tape. (The end result will look similar to an envelope flap).

Tie it up

The Classic
It's just like tying your shoe laces. Wrap your ribbon around the wrapped box and tie a bow
like you tie your shoe.

The Double Bow
It's just like tying your shoe laces twice! Allow enough ribbon to tie the same bow twice. Tie
one classic bow. Then with the remaining ribbon tails, tie the same bow again. Pull tails to
make loops the same size. Trim the ends to make the tails the same length.

The Crossover
Take a long strip of ribbon and cross it over leaving a loop at the top. Secure the crossover to
your gift by placing a large sticker in the center of the crossover and pressing it to your gift.
For a fancy finish to your bow, fold the ribbon tails in half, and cut the end on a diagonal.

Be Sassy!

  • For additional splash, add your own glitzy stickers to the top of your present.

  • Colorful markers make an ordinary gift card happy!

  • Sprinkle a little confetti or glitter over your tissue paper for an extra sparkle in your package.

  • Do you have a photo of you and the friend you are giving the gift to? If so, hole-punch the corner of the photo and loop it through your ribbon when you are tying the bow. It ties you two together forever.

  • Slip a fresh flower blossom into your bow. It's the ultimate in sassy class!
